An Asian Heritage Cultural Festival Event Co-presented by the Canada One Family Network and the Canadian Chinese Orchestra

Toronto, Ontario – April 24, 2024 – The Canada One Family Network, in partnership with the Canadian Chinese Orchestra, proudly presents “Echoes of the East: A Canadian Chinese Orchestra Summer Showcase,” a captivating concert event celebrating the rich traditions and vibrant sounds of Chinese music. This unique event, part of the Asian Heritage Cultural Festival, will take place on Sunday, May 26, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Fairview Library Theatre, 35 Fairview Mall Dr., Toronto.

Under the direction of conductor Joanna Ng and guest conductor Dr. Matthew Poon, the concert features a diverse lineup of soloists, ensembles, and a full orchestra, offering a journey through both traditional Chinese music and contemporary compositions.

Concert Highlights:

• Dizi soloist Tony Tong will perform Journey to Suzhou (姑苏行), a stunning dizi concerto that showcases the expressive tones of the traditional Chinese bamboo flute.
• Erhu soloist Nicole Liang will perform Princess Changping (帝女花), an evocative piece that demonstrates the haunting beauty of the erhu.
• The Full Orchestra will present Race for the Dragon Boat (赛龙夺锦), celebrating the energy of dragon boat racing, and Sky (天), a grand orchestral work.
• The Guzheng Ensemble will play Butterflies Blue (蝴蝶與藍), presenting the intricate and harmonious sounds of the traditional Chinese zither.
• The CCO Chamber Ensemble will perform Small River Flows (小河淌水) and Red Mountain Flowers in Full Bloom (山丹丹花开红艳艳), offering beloved Chinese classics.
• The Full Orchestra will end the concert with Red Sun (红日), adding a contemporary twist to the event.
