Winter’s Warm Sunshine Melodies Concert

by the Canadian Chinese Orchestra

Under the expert guidance of Conductor Joanna Ng D’agnone and Artistic Director Amely Zhou, the Winter Melodies concert promises an enchanting musical journey featuring a repertoire that spans the rich cultural tapestry of the Chinese Nation, including classics like “Chrysanthemum Terrace” and “Golden Sun in Beijing.”

Toronto, ON – November 25, 2023 – Canada One Family Network is thrilled to announce the much-anticipated Winter’s Warm Sunshine Melodies Concert, presented by the Canadian Chinese Orchestra. The event is scheduled to take place on December 9, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, at The Salvation Army Agincourt Community Church, located at 3080 Birchmount Rd, Scarborough, ON M1W 3K3. This event is a free community event for families and friends to learn about the rich Chinese musical arts and it happens once in a year!

Learn your favourite Chinese instrument with a professional musician virtually. A total of 30 weekly online classes. Small class sizes of 3-5 students.

Erhu, Guzheng, Pipa, Yangqin

55 years old+. Instruments will not be provided, but we have offered a rental program upon request.

Chinese Music Summer In Class Program

Chinese Music Summer Camp Co-presented by Yip’s Canada and Canadian Chinese Orchestra Chinese Music Summer Camp Co-presented by Yip’s Canada and Canadian Chinese Orchestra If your child wants to explore Chinese music and be rhythmic at the same time, this Chinese Music Summer Program is perfect for your child! We will be making some noises together with the Chinese instruments such as the Erhu, Zhongruan, Guzheng and Flower pot drums! A good way to set a good musicianship foundation for your child’s music learning experience. Besides music, we will also learn about Chinese paintings and calligraphies. Celebrate Asian Heritage Month with musicians from the Canadian Chinese Chamber Music EnsembleHosted by the Richmond Hill Public Library, you can enjoy a free online Traditional Chinese Music workshop with musicians from the Canadian Chinese Chamber Music Ensemble! Following the workshop, you will enjoy a special performance from Amely Zhou on Erhu, a two-string fiddle, and Lipeng Wu on Dizi, a transverse bamboo flute. “Dunhuang Award” announces a Call for Scores for Chinese chamber music

Mission Statement Chinese chamber music is a musical genre that comes in a diversity of forms. In recent years, many domestic and foreign musicians have engaged in Chinese chamber music and have made explorations and contributions to it through the creation of new works and arrangement of existing repertoire. Many great works have emerged which have promoted the development of Chinese chamber music. In order to solicit new works from both domestic and foreign composers, Dunhuang Award committee has invited professional organizations and launched an international competition and performance of new works for Chinese chamber music in 2021.  The competition will base on the principles of fairness, impartiality and openness to promote outstanding Chinese chamber music works, which have cultural and artistic aesthetic values, innovative spirit of the times, and are suitable for promotion by grassroots arts organizations. CYCO at TVOkids Backyard Beats

Canadian Youth Chinese Orchestra members, Sky Yang and Tony Tong are on TVOkids! Check out the new TVOkids program Backyard Beats in introducing different instruments, and DIY your own instrument at home! Two young members from CYCO have been invited to tell you more about their instruments and musical journeys on TVOkids. Tune in to tvokids.com online or TVOkids youtube channel to watch the episodes on making your own DIY Erhu and DIY Dizi! Wednesday August 5th at 3:45pm on TVOkids. There is a live stream available on the TVOkids YouTube channel as well. Some episodes are starting before schedule, so I recommend tuning in 5 mins before. It will also replay Friday at 5:50pm and Saturday 10:50am.
