This summer, join the Canadian Chinese Orchestra (CCO) as its members present an afternoon concert Sound Resonance 樂 . 声 on June 26th, 2022 at 5:00pm! Led by guest conductor Joanna Ng D’Agnone, this will be the first in-person concert since 2020. In this concert, there will be orchestral works, small ensemble performances, as well as solo pieces by soloists Lina Cao (Guzheng), Lipeng Wu (Dizi), Huiming Li (Guanzi), Bill Ng (Cello) and Lilian Yang (Pipa). CCO is excited to present to you a variety of music repertoires in collaboration with the Ontario Cross-cultural Music Society Choir (OCMS Choir). 

Joanna Ng D’Agnone holds a master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting (Northern Illinois University) and a Bachelor of Piano Performance (Queen’s University). As an active music educator and conductor, she has been appointed as the music director for the University of Toronto Allegro Choir in 2013 and Ontario Cross-Cultural Music Society Choir in 2017. The OCMS Choir is a registered charitable and non-profit organization that provides musical education and training to Canadians, while supporting and participating in fundraising and charitable activities in the community. Each year, the choir participates in the annual gala concert of the Overseas Chinese Festival of the Arts and holds regular concerts periodically. 

In this concert, some of the highlighted repertoires include Flower Festival (赶花会) and Kangding Love Song (康定情歌), both originated from Sichuan folk songs; Dance of Kuche (龟兹舞), a song from Kuche city along the ancient Silk Road; and The Cresting Moon (月儿高) which is one of the classics of traditional Pipa repertoire. The OCMS Choir will be presenting a lyrical piece inspired by the poet Chih-mo Hsu called The Joy of a Snowflake (雪花的快乐)

Audiences will not only hear classical repertoires, but also enjoy some rearrangements of pop tunes such as the Cantonese Pop Heart Warming Love (爱在心内暖) and the Mandarin drama OST Unsullied (不染). Lilian Yang will be presenting a famous pipa piece Dance of the Yi Tribe (彝族舞曲). A North America premiere of the contemporary zheng work Lotus Blossoming under the Rain (雨莲花开) will be presented by zheng soloist Lina Cao.
